Are You A Master Mason?

Think of the Scottish Rite Degrees as continuing education for Master Masons—the "University of Freemasonry"—expanding on the symbols and lessons of the Craft Degrees. To receive the Scottish Rite Degrees, you must be a Master Mason in good standing with your Craft Lodge. In a process similar to that of joining a Craft Lodge, you must petition for the Degrees.

If you’re ready to join, download a Petition or contact our Director of Membership.

Not Yet A Mason?

Before you can become a Scottish Rite Mason, you must receive the first three Degrees of Masonry from a Craft (also called a “Symbolic” or “Blue”) Lodge. To join a Craft Lodge in California, you must be a man at least 18 years of age, and of good character and reputation.

To further explore Freemasonry, contact your local Craft Lodge. If you live in California, click here to search for a Craft Lodge near you. If you live outside of California, try a Web search for the “Grand Lodge of Masons” in your state.
